Cool, Calm and Covered

With a new pool, pavilion, and pergola, it was time to try defying anxiety.

When homeowners Joann and Tony G., first moved from Florida many years ago to their new Bucks County home, Joann was very reluctant to have a pool due to past experiences. She started to reconsider when Tony, who has a very stressful job, had an idea to create a relaxing outdoor space especially because they were planning to stay long-term in the house. This was a welcome change to Joann, who described their previous outdoor space as very hot, uncomfortable, and uninviting, which made it feel like a “dead zone.” So, they reached out to Gasper, with whom they had established a good relationship over the years, undertaking various other projects such as the front walk and privacy screenings. “I told Bob that we wanted something where we could sit outside all day, all afternoon, in the evenings, and even in the cooler months,” recalls Joann.

Gasper’s design idea for the backyard included a fully covered deck off the house, which transitions down to a new,16’×36’ Roman-styled pool (built by Premier Pool & Spa) and a concrete paver pool patio. The pavers are Beacon Hill Flagstone (Color: Almond Grove) with a border of the Treo small rectangle paver (Color: Charcoal) by Unilock. The new outdoor space allowed for both comfort and privacy.

Having the pavilion attached to the house means that they can enjoy meals or watch sports on the outdoor TV regardless of weather and without being exposed to the harsh full sun. They are often able to use their covered outdoor area up until Thanksgiving each year.

The size of the 27’×16′ outdoor pavilion allows them to have two distinct spaces, one for dining and one for deep-seating outdoor furniture. The pavilion’s large solid stone wall not only displays the outdoor TV for optimum viewing but also provides them with complete privacy.

On the opposite side of the pool is another structure, a beautiful 10’×16’ fiberglass pergola. The pergola creates a balanced outdoor space that provides sun and shade and enhances the view from the house and pavilion. The fiberglass construction means that there will be very little maintenance.

Joann and Tony took advantage of our Exterior Furnishings Studio’s complimentary furniture design services when selecting the outdoor furniture for the new patio. Gasper exterior designer Eli Hymer proposed a heavy-duty outdoor patio furniture set that was constructed out of a faux wood composite material. “Eli gave me excellent advice. He provided high-quality products, and when I asked him, ‘What if I have a problem?’ He responded, ‘Then you can come back to the store, and I’ll replace it.’ That’s exactly what I want to hear whenever I purchase an investment,” recalls Joann.

Now Joann and Tony enjoy spending long hours outside, whether relaxing by the pool, listening to music, or enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The serene atmosphere allows them to unwind, and she’s noticed a change for the better. “Tony and I agree, there is nothing more enjoyable and relaxing than spending more time in our new outdoor space,” shares Joann. The tranquility of their outdoor space has brought them the peace they were seeking, making it a true sanctuary.
